Building Retrofit Diary:
Daniel's Student Hostel Milano, Italy
This diary consists of quarterly reports of the status of the demonstration site
written by the responsible demonstration partner. |
|
General Overview
Description of the renovation and its purpose Built in 1950,
the complex, consisting of four buildings, was built as a public hostel. The building was realised, like most buildings of those years,
without thermal insulation materials and with an old heating system concept: a single central heating plant, without distinct thermal
zones, serves all the radiators; several electrical boilers are installed to provide hot water. The lower levels of the building, used
as offices, services, meeting rooms, and a canteen, have been successively equipped with an air conditioning system. The Politecnico di
Milano has rented this building 2004 for 35 years, to adapt it as a students hostel. |

Status up to today The
definitive design for conventional refurbishment was already completed few months ago, as required by Italian law for receiving the
national funding foreseen for student-houses. Because of an unexpected long delay (due to the administrative procedures in the part of
the Ministry) in order to receive the national funding, the building rehabilitation is at present in a stand-by phase. Consequently also
the process for the advanced energy rehabilitation foreseen in the BRITA-project is being delayed. Therefore, the design implementation
for integrating Brita solution is in a very preliminary stage. As soon as the funding for conventional refurbishment will be released
the actual work for the demonstration building should be started. |
